History of Britain in 100 Places: Introduction

Following the immense success of both the radio series and the book A History of the World in 100 Objects, I thought that I might have a go at doing something similar for Britain.  The question was, through what medium?  Something further on objects or people?  I finally came down in favour of places largely because they are, or at least most of them are accessible.  Some of the places are well-known, others less so but all played an important role in the ways in which Britain and Ireland developed from early man through to today.  This will be a project that lasts at least two years since I intend to publish one place a week (and we all know about ‘good intentions’)!
